I am likely the only person who would buy this. Bonus points if you can guess the vehicle.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I know Chrysler started doing this back in 2011 with the Grand Cherokee. It was added to the Chrysler product line as the interiors got updated

I refuse to buy a car without a CD player.
And yes, living in 1994 is fun.

Lol yeah, we got lots of complaints from older people who bought Subarus and then found there was no CD port and no add on one.
I don’t understand the idiots that do not do research and totally go over a vehicle before buying it.

I was browsing some stuff on Amazon a few days ago and was stunned to spot a portable CD player. I’m really wondering who’s lugging around a knockoff Discman in this day and age.

The CD player in my Moms 16 Subaru won’t play most CD-R discs which she had a ton of for some reason. Apparently this is a thing, I always assumed any CD player since about 1991 could. I showed her how to put stuff on USB sticks instead of burning CDs.

Hmm, yeah CD-Rs should work with anything. Note however that standard dye-type CD-Rs have an average lifespan of around 10 years and disc quality and of course the hot temperatures in a car can degrade that further, so it’s possible they just are no longer in good enough shape to be read by the cars’ CD player.

My 1994 vehicle had a tape deck from the factory, CD players were the height of luxury back then. I did add one to it, but that was in 2001 when my 16 year old self was driving it.

Nope can’t read brand new discs that play in every other machine I tried. Plays commercial discs fine. According to the internet it’s a thing that there are actually some recent models of OEM cars that can’t play CDR

That’s very weird, but maybe they are taking some shortcut that works with with “real” CDs but not dyed ones.

I came close to missing the car CD player era. My old truck had an in-dash cassette player. I ts eventual replacement skipped the CD player in favor of aux input jack, SD slot, USB port, and BlueTooth audio support .
But in between I added a nice/fun/fast car that had an in-dash CD player, which I don’t think I ever used. It took a few years for me to finally convince myself to spend the money on that car. I f I hadn’t happened to find the one I wanted at the price I wanted I would have kept putting it off and might have skipped buying a second car in favor of sticking to a single vehicle that would have been new enough to favor newer electronic storage over optical discs .

So what vehicle is it? I don’t think I saw any guesses. I’d say maybe Subaru?
Also, you'd be in good company, Mrs. Snuze is still upset her Terrain doesn't have a CD player. Meanwhile the 8-Fiddy has a tape deck. Luckily the P.O. left me a tape adapter.

For whatever reason, a number of the bands I like still only release in CD form, and it would be nice to be able to get in the car and listen right away instead of going home, burning to iTunes, converting to mp3 (my car doesn't seem to play anything else), and saving to a flash drive. It's a lot of extra steps and pretty time consuming. Plus, I'm an album person anyway, I like to listen all the way through in order.

It can be a few things from the lead in data being in the wrong place on the disk, the disc not being “closed” or finalized properly, to using low grade laser/reader that relies on the pressed discs. It’s been a problem since the introduction of recordable CD’s.

What software are you using to burn the discs? It could be that the player doesn’t like the way the software is writing the lead in data or the software is not finalizing the disc properly. I’ve been fighting this since my first burner in 95. These days use Verbatim Gold media and don’t overburn past the 650MB of a standard disc.

Back when I worked for Alpine, this was a big issue. It was almost entirely down to the 80 minute/700 MB CD-Rs. They eked out the additional 6 minutes/50 MB by tightening the track pitch (in violation of the Red Book standard.) a lot of CD player mechanisms of the time were simply unable to cope because they were hard-coded to follow the track pitch of a standard 74 minute CD and couldn’t even read the TOC of an 80 minute CD-R.
But that was back in like 2002. Odd that a 2016 would still choke on them.

I ripped my collection years ago using LAME. I’d say 75% of my music is mp3, the rest I’d bought from Apple.

In cars, CD players are going to die off faster than cassette players did. Seems weird.
OTOH, I haven’t used CD in a car for years now. The Sony radio I put in my truck doesn’t have it and I don’t miss it.

So, my father in law was toying with the idea of getting a new car. When he found out that none of the vehicles he was interested in where available with a CD player, he decided to keep his current vehicle.

Augh....I was trying to explain to a kid at work yesterday it’d be easier to get an external hard drive, hook it up to a USB port and download the 30 gigs of data. He recommended just use a CD instead as that is easier...
It took me a few minutes to get my brain unscrambled to explain the stupidity of his words...and lack of knowledge.
